Worst Case Analysis of a Saturated Gust Loads Alleviation System

چکیده
In order to determine a guaranteed upper bound for worst case “1-cosine” gust loads of flexible aircrafts, the usage of the worst case energy-to-peak gain of linear parametervarying (LPV) systems has been recently proposed. A limitation of this approach is that it cannot deal with nonlinearities. This paper uses integral quadratic constraints (IQCs) to circumvent this restriction and to consider the saturation of a gust loads alleviation system. Based on the dissipation inequality framework, a linear matrix inequality constraint which bounds the worst case energy-to-peak gain of saturated LPV systems is given. In order to reduce the conservatism, an iterative procedure to refine local IQCs is proposed. The conservatism of this approached is analyzed at the example of a two-dimensional thin airfoil in combination with a saturated gust loads alleviation system.

Gust Load Alleviation Based on Model Predictive Control
Weight reduction is a typical design goal for modern aircraft. If gust encounters (as required by Certification Specification 25) are sizing conditions of parts of the airframe, this can be achieved (for example) by an active gust load alleviation system that reduces the gust load level down to the level of the next design condition, which might be the design loads from maneuver conditions. In ...
متن کاملAdaptive Feedforward Control for Gust Loads Alleviation
Active control techniques for the gust loads alleviation/flutter suppression have been investigated extensively in the last decades to control the aeroelastic response, and improve the handling qualities of the aircraft. Nonadaptive feedback control algorithms such as classical single input single output techniques (Schmidt & Chen, 1986), linear quadratic regulator (LQR) theory (Mahesh et al., ...
متن کاملRobust Performance Analysis Applied to Gust Loads Computation
This paper demonstrates how the robust performance analysis framework can be used to determine worst case loads of flexible aircraft due to “1-cosine” gusts. This framework is a part of control theory and is used to characterize a system by input-output norms: e. g. the induced L2-L∞ norm represents the worst case energy-to-peak gain. Two very efficient ways to compute this norm are presented. ...
متن کاملA Comprehensive Robust Adaptive Controller for Gust Load Alleviation
The objective of this paper is the implementation and validation of an adaptive controller for aircraft gust load alleviation. The contribution of this paper is the design of a robust controller that guarantees the reduction of the gust loads, even when the nominal conditions change. Some preliminary results are presented, considering the symmetric aileron deflection as control device. The prop...
متن کاملOptimisation of the Composite Sensorcraft Structure for Gust Alleviation
Despite the benefits of composite structures, it is only recently that the main load bearing structures in large aircraft such as the Boeing 787 and Airbus A350 have started to be manufactured using carbon fibre composites. Even then, the unique directionality properties of composite laminates have yet to be exploited to improve the aircraft performance. In this study an aluminium and composite...
